Marinera Norteña
The Marinera Norteña is a patriotic dance of Peru. 🇵🇪 It is a couples dance characterized for being free, agile, graceful, elegant, happy and spontaneous, that shows a courtship throughout the entire dance. 💞 We can appreciate how the woman uses movements of the skirt and handkerchief, flirting with craftiness, cleverness, insinuation and intelligence while the man woos, accompanies and conquers his partner. This dance is a product of many cultural races with a notable influence of African rhythms. 🎶

Huaylarsh
The Huaylas or also called Huaylarsh is a folkloric dance originating from the province of Huancayo. This contagious, rhythmic dance is performed to celebrate success in cultivating and harvesting. It is characterized by movements with the arms, head, body, legs and feet, at the same time making moves such as jumps, turns, which are imitations of some agricultural activities. The clothing is very striking and is characterized by bright ornaments on the skirt, a blanket in the case of the ladies and the vest in the case of the men. Currently it is danced in religious celebrations and also in times of carnivals and festivals in the months of February and March.

Danza Shipibo
The dances in the rainforests of Peru reflect a mixture of magic, mystery and reality, based on customs, myths and legends. ✨ In the variety of dances from the Amazon region, one can find the dance of the Shipibo-Conibo tribe which is performed in parties and celebrations of the indigenous communities. 🎉 The attire is very colorful and is complemented with beautiful accessories that are products of the natural environment such as the necklaces made of plant seeds derived from the area. 🌱 It is a dance that is striking, contagious and above all transmits the vibrant traditional energy of the populations of the region. 🎶

Tondero
It is a representative dance of the North of Peru, specifically the Piura region. The origin of the dance derives from the cultural blend between the Spanish, people of African descendence, and the native people of the north. 🌍 Between its steps and postures the Spanish influence is noted, as much as the African impact of the rhythm and movements of the hips.🎶 It is said that this choreography represents the mating and courtship of birds in their natural habitat, this romance is beautifully expressed through the dance that is filled with fluidity, agility and grace. The strumming of the guitar makes it unique and recognizable as a dance and song from the countryside. 💘

Caporales
Caporales is a folkloric dance originating from the Andean region of South America. The dance consists of women and men, each with their own attire of which are highlighted with sparkles and adornments, of which is a is a mixture of AfroAndean and Spanish aspects. The men dance in a very energetic manor as they tend to stomp and jump, while the women swing their skirts and hands with much grace and elegance. Today, the Caporales dance has become a very popular folkloric dance at Peruvian, Bolivian, Argentinian, Chilean, Spain and United States festivities.

Festejo
The Festejo is the most joyful rhythm and filled with exaltation that represents the dances of Peru. It is dance with African roots originally from the central coast. 🌍 Its creation goes back to the slaves brought from African territories, who through their lyrics and contagious rhythms, express their daily experiences, joy, sadness, exaltation, pain, and festivities. The instruments that they use in their songs are the donkey jaw, the cajon box, and the traditional guitar. 🎶 The dance is vigorous, agile and above all filled with rhythm and flavor, whose waist and hip movements simulate the falling in love between couples. 💖

Valicha
Valicha is the name of a traditional Andean song (genre also known as Huayno) that is very popular in the majestic city of Cusco. It is said that the inspiration for its composition roots from the loving experience of the songwriter Miguel Ángel Hurtado and a woman from Cusco named Valeriana, whose abbreviated name is Valicha. 💌 This huayno song has become indefinitely a part of Peruvian music, it is known at a worldwide level and is represented by other composers in the form of songs and instrumentals. The dance itself represents the feminine flirting, male courtship, the approach to fall in love and finally with the footwork which is the manifestation of the happiness of the matchmaking. 💞The dance attire of Valicha is colorful and beautiful in honor of the country-people of the region. It is a very significant melody, considered a hymn for the people of the Imperial City. 🎶

Vals Criollo
The Peruvian waltz (Vals Criollo) is a type of music that belongs to the AfroPeruvian and creole genre of music from Peru. Its origins date back to the 19th and 20th century in the city of Lima. It is said that the Vals Criollo is an adaptation of the European waltz transformed by popular musicians who adapted it with their instruments and personal wording. The use of guitars, double bass, and piano are fundamental parts of its melody, as well as the violin, harp and castanets. The Vals dance is generally done in couples or groups. Its execution requires an upright posture with repetitive, short steps and quick turns. Its movements follow the rhythm of the music with grace and elegance.

Tuntuna
It is a dance originating in the Bolivian and Peruvian highlands. It is said that its origins go back to the colonial time period and the arrival of the African communities. 🌍 The movements of the men is characterized by jumps and contortions that emulate the exertion of the jobs they did during the time period, the movements of the women is executed with the upright posture while keeping time with the hips, moving the choreography forward with short steps marked by the bombo instrument. The dance attire, as much as the men as the women, is showy and is decorated with bright adornments.✨It is a very popular dance in religious carnivals and festivals of the region. 🎉

Carnaval Arequipeño
The Carnaval of Arequipa is a traditional dance of The Ciudad Blanca (The White City), It is called this due its architecture having been made with white volcanic stone. ⛪️ This dance is interpreted in the street parades during the city’s celebrations. It is a procession dance primarily performed by adolescents that display energy and joy! ☀️
